2025 Beta Phi Delta Foundation
Basic Black
Scholarship Recipient
Sariyah Brockington

The Beta Phi Delta Foundation is proud to recognize Sariyah Brockington, a graduating senior from Dillard High School, as the recipient of the 2025 Beta Phi Delta Foundation Scholarship. Sariyah is an exceptional student, musician, and leader whose dedication and perseverance have made her a standout both in and out of the classroom.

Sariyah’s journey at Dillard High began not on a traditional school day, but with the start of the school’s summer music camp—a formative experience that would shape her next four years. Immersed in an environment filled with passion, tradition, and pride, Sariyah immediately knew she had found her home in the Dillard High School Band program. Over her four years at Dillard, Sariyah became an integral part of both the Marching Band and Concert Band, distinguishing herself through musical excellence and service. She served as a Band Leader for two years and was elected Band President for the 2025–2026 school year. Her commitment earned her several accolades, including First Chair, Best Junior, and consistent placement on the A Honor Roll. These achievements reflect not only her talent but also her tireless work ethic and willingness to grow.

Sariyah’s musical journey was marked by resilience and adaptability. She began her high school band career on the euphonium but bravely switched to the oboe—a rare and challenging transition. Despite the difficulty, she mastered the new instrument and now proudly holds the oboe chair in the school’s wind orchestra. This experience deepened her understanding of music and strengthened her empathy for beginners, having twice faced the steep learning curve of starting a new instrument from scratch.

Her Band Director, Mr. Voshaun Smith, praised Sariyah as a “cornerstone of the program,” highlighting her leadership, musical growth, and ability to inspire her peers. He wrote, “Her dedication, leadership, and musical growth have been truly remarkable… She has a natural ability to inspire those around her, fostering a sense of community within the ensemble.”

Academically, Sariyah has maintained a 3.6 GPA, balancing rigorous coursework with her musical and leadership responsibilities. Her intellectual curiosity and passion for service extend beyond high school. This fall, she will attend Florida A&M University, a historically Black university that reflects her desire to be surrounded by a community that celebrates cultural identity, excellence, and shared experiences. Sariyah believes attending an HBCU will not only give her a sense of comfort but also an unforgettable college journey rooted in legacy and pride.

Sariyah plans to complete her undergraduate degree and then pursue law school, with the ultimate goal of becoming a lawyer and later entering the world of politics. She is determined to use her voice and platform to advocate for her community and effect positive change. The Beta Phi Delta Foundation celebrates Sariyah Brockington as a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose, grow through challenge, and serve with passion. We are honored to support her as she takes the next steps toward a bright and impactful future.
